Forever is a Long Time to Be Wrong

Hi Sam,
My name is Debby Sibert, and I’m a Christian author. I’ve self-published four books and just completed my fifth. I would like to try to get this one traditionally published. Its message is so impactful that I want to get it in front of as many eyes as possible. I believe that getting it traditionally published will give me the advantage of credibility and, hopefully, more exposure. I just got it back from a Christian editor who has checked all of my many citations and Biblical references to ensure they are all correct, match up, etc. So that is done. She’s also helped with the punctuation, spelling, grammar, and formatting.

The title of the book is Forever is a Long Time to Be Wrong: What is Your Destiny? It’s an evidence-based look at the truth of Christianity, written mostly for the skeptic. I go into much detail and provide evidence to back up the reliability of the Bible, the fact that the world was created by intelligent design, and is not a product of evolution. I address who Jesus is and that he really did rise from the dead. I also answer some difficult questions like, “If God is such a good God, why is there still evil and suffering in the world?” and others.

My main concern is that I want this to read as professionally as possible. I wonder if there possibly could be too much redundancy: whether I tried too hard to get my message across, explaining in many different ways, how and why a person needs to become a follower of Christ, receive eternal life, and spend forever with him, rather than eternity in regret and torment. I guess I want so desperately for the reader to “get it.” It could be fine, but I don’t want the reader to feel like I am overdoing that. I would love to have a professional “developmental” editor look at it, and I know you have helped some big-name authors with their books, so I hope you can help me as well.

What I feel makes this book stand out from other apologetic books is that I focus on the word “Forever” and try to get the reader to wrap their head around just how long that is. I challenge them to think about it enough to be able to explain “forever” to a friend. I want them to really think about the fact that we all have an expiration date and to think long and hard about where they will spend eternity. I challenge them by throwing them a life preserver and asking them if they will grab onto it or push it away.

This was a difficult book to write in that I want to come across as winsome as possible, of course. At the same time, I don’t want to water down the gospel. I don’t want to come across in any way as judgmental or finger-pointing, but that I truly care about their destiny. I also tried very hard to ensure that my evidence was solid (over 120 citations) so that a skeptic could not poke holes in it. If they do make their way through it, they should be able to see my heart is one of compassion for them and not condemnation.

After I explain everything to them, I give them an opportunity to trust in Christ for their salvation, and then I walk them through the next steps in growing in their newfound faith. I take them through an A-Z process. Not counting the front and back matter, it is 220 pages long, double-spaced.

I don’t even care if I don’t make much money on this book. I’m doing this as a ministry and want to leave a legacy that points others to Christ and hopefully change many lives. If you check me out on Amazon, you’ll see my other Kindle books are all free because I see this as a ministry. They’ve done pretty well considering that they are self-published, but the message in this one is so life-changing, I want to do everything I can to get it in front of as many eyes as possible.

My ask and the reason I’m reaching out to you is I’m hoping you will be willing to take a look at my book and see if it’s worthy of your time to do your magic and edit it to make it as compelling as possible for the skeptic and others who do not know Christ. If so, please let me know how to get this to you.

Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to be sure you understood what my book is about, my goal, and my heart.
Thanks so much for your consideration.
Many Blessings,
Debby
